About the Artist

Hello, my name is Marilyn Jones.   I'm a self taught bead artist.   I have always been fascinated by the beauty of these tiny works of art.   It is this fascination that drew me into the wonderful art of melting and forming glass.

In the beginning, I started stringing jewelry pieces with semi-precious stones and pearls.   Next to catch my eye was polymer clay.   The things that can be done with clay Beads are amazing!   I have enormous respect for artists who work in clay.   While making canes and sculpting pieces with polymer clay was very enjoyable, the artistic depth that I wanted to achieve still eluded me (not everyone, just me).

So I turned to glass. Being real good all year, I asked Santa to bring me a hot head and a beginning bead making kit.   Voila, I had found my medium!   Spending time at the torch melting and applying layers of glass to a mandrel has totally obsessed me.   Thanks to my wonderful husband, I now have a loft studio complete with air, cable, phone, Internet, carpet, a 'minor burner torch' and, especially important, Beads a work bench with an exhaust system.   Now, I spend most of my spare time (which is little since I have a full time job) perfecting my glass bead art.   I also divide my spare time with my other two passions, riding my motorcycle and enjoying my grandchildren.

Please email me with any bead design request.   I love a challenge and will do my very best to create exactly what you need.   I do not copy other artist's work so please don't send me a picture.   I will only work from a description of what you have in mind thus ensuring an original art piece.

As for the beads in this website, they were created with techniques that I learned from reading various magazines, books and tutorials.   I believe that if you publish Bead Mags your technique then you give other artists permission to use it.   Therefore, I would like to thank Cindy Jenkins and all the artists included in her books.   Also, a big thank you to Corina Tellinger, although I'm not finished with her yet.   There is so much more I want to learn from her publications.

Thank you ALL for sharing!
